This is it. The kick-off to what I hope will be a fun outlet for my creativity and a place to share my experiences and inspire others. WorkingGirlDIY is a blog about me and my life as a young working professional. It’s a place to share about how I balance my full-time career with my desire to do all things, from home improvement projects to experimenting with new recipes and finding new ways to stay healthy. It’s about doing the things that make me happy and sharing the successes and misadventures along the way.
I currently live in North Carolina, but I hail from the Midwest. I find that core values such as generosity, kindness, and a strong work ethic are shared across people in both places and that has made North Carolina easily feel like home. After just a year and a half of living in “the south” I purchased my first home with my now fiance. With our two dogs, we are slowly turning it into everything we want it to be. This has included all sorts of projects that I’ll come to share about ranging from re-tiling our fireplace to building a raised cedar garden bed in the backyard (the soil down here is not like back home so we can’t grow anything directly in it).
Besides home improvement projects we love to spend time in the kitchen. My fiance works from home, which is incredibly helpful in getting meals on the table at a decent time. He is a great cook, but I do try to do my part too. We love trying new foods and new recipes together and really make a point of eating a well-rounded dinner together every night. It’s a great way to bring our sometimes separate feeling work-lives back together in our home each day. I’m excited to share some of our favorite dishes with you that we’ve come across from our favorite balsamic glaze for steaks to my now staple white chocolate creme brulee dessert.
My busy life never slows down, between work and home, 2 dogs, and now a wedding to plan (and hopefully kids down the road!), it is a non-stop race to make every minute worthwhile. I hope you’ll enjoy reading about some of my journey and that you take some inspiration from it as well to go after the things that make you happy, whether that means remodeling your kitchen, planting an herb garden, experimenting with a new meal, or finding a new way to get fit and healthy. Even a busy working girl can make it all happen!
